727-576-3319 Dr. David C. Johnson, DDS, PA Implants are man-made tooth roots crafted of lightweight titanium, a strong and safe material. Dental implants are the newest and most permanent way to replace missing teeth. They have long-term potential and can last a lifetime if properly cared for. The dental restoration that will be placed over the implant(s) is called a prosthesis. There are several different types of prostheses available. Dr. Johnson will discuss which type will be best for you. One missing tooth can be replaced with a single prosthesis (sometimes called a crown or cap). Each prosthetic tooth attaches to its own implant. A partial prosthetic (fixed bridge) is used to replace 2 or more teeth, usually requiring only 2 or 3 implants. Full fixed bridge prostheses can replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw. For our denture patients, implants are wonderful treatment options to better secure the denture, by literally snapping into the implant and securing the denture in one place. Implants help to end the embarrassment of floating dentures, renew confidence, and promote a healthy smile without reservation.
